Rendell walked past the old woman selling flowers for the last 15 months as he stepped out of the subway stairs.
Wearing old and dirty gloves with holes in the fingers, she was doing what she could to keep up with her expenses each month. Rendell noticed a retail grocery bag nearby which indicated she was merely a middleman in the floral business.
After Rendell stepped off the subway that morning, he checked his wallet to see if he had cash on hand. He did.
Emerging from the subway stairs, Rendell walked straight to the flower lady, emptied his wallet of all the cash he had, and grabbed the remaining flowers from her large white bucket.
He took two steps and then turned back. From his standpoint, he could see her beaming from ear to ear because of the large sale, so he finished the transaction and handed the flowers back to her with a wink and a smile.
Rendell Johnson couldn’t know for sure because he would be in his office all day, but he suspected her smile lit up the entire downtown for a while.
Kindness and giving are a must in these tuff times.
