When Lexi and her Grandpa stepped out into street on the warm Summer evening, he sensed it would a night full of teachable moments.
Normally, Lexi was an explorer, but tonight she stayed close to Grandpa as walking in the dark night. She hadn’t kept her eyes off the stars since she started noticing them after they walked away from the street lights. She’d point and he’d look at the star glimmering. She’d point again and he’d look.
“Grandpa, how big is God?” Lexi asked after a hundred “Look at that star, Grandpa” comments.
He was in no hurry to answer because he knew she’d explore that question a bit more.
“Is He bigger than the stars?”
No reply.
“Is He bigger than the planets?”
Grandpa continued gazing at the stars himself without answering.
“Is He bigger than the Sun and the moon?”
“What do you think, Lexi?”
Both were now standing still looking up and all around the night sky. They were at least 200 feet from the nearest street lamp so their view into the heavens was better than normal.
“He must be big, Grandpa. He created all of those out there.”
“What else did He create, Lexi?”
“Me and you.”
“What else?”
“All these trees and birds and animals.
“Anything else?
“All those other people.”
“Lexi, the Bible says he has the whole world in the palm of his hand.”
Lexi took her Grandfather’s hand and looked it from about six inches away.
“The whole world in his hand?”
“The whole world.”
Lexi said, “I guess God is pretty big then, huh?”
“I guess so.”
Lovely teachable moment. I'm loving Lexi's Grandpa, David. 😊
That's beautiful! He has the whole world in his hands. Thank you, David
