When Tara came through the door after work, Will was pacing back and forth, rubbing his hands over his bald head and taking deep breaths.
He rushed over to her and hugged her, saying, “It’ll be all right. We’re gonna get the best lawyers we can afford. If need be, we’ll dip into our retirement savings to get you an even better one. I don’t know what you were thi….”
“Wait wait wait, what are you talking about? Who needs a lawyer? What’s going on, Will? You’re starting to worry me,” she said as she took off her coat and put her things on the couch.
“You should be worried, Tara. Actually, you should be very worried. As far as I can tell, it’s a federal offense. Federal offense, dear. That’s big time, Tara, big time.”
“Will you get ahold of yourself!” Tara said. “Talk to me. What’s going on?”
“As if you don’t know,” he said. “Here, follow me.”
Their bed was covered with recently washed clothes. It served as a clean staging area until they were able to put the clothes in the proper places. He picked up a washed clump of green and white paper with the number 5 visible.
“You’ve been money laundering again, Tara. They’re gonna nail ya this time, Lady. Nail you to the wall.”
Tara closed her eyes and said, “What’s that therapist’s number again? Only thing is, I’m not sure who needs to talk with him most.”
