Every morning except Sundays, The Gang met in the fast food restaurant to discuss and solve the pressing issues around the world over hot coffee and breakfast - especially coffee.
The beauty of it was that no one in the world would ever take their solutions seriously because no one would ever hear them. They were just a bunch of guys reminiscing and shooting the breeze.
The Gang met to express ideas and thoughts without fear of making enemies. Occasionally an argument broke out. More importantly, it was a chance to get together and talk face to face rather than through a video camera or on a phone.
The music over the PA system was something they enjoyed it as long as they could talk over it. Classic rock with a bit of disco thrown in. It was what they grew up with, memorized without trying to, and jammed out to when they were with friends back in the day.
Then the Rod Stewart song came over the airways that they all knew but hesitated to sing, the song that none of them wanted to admit was patently false in the face of their present situation: “Forever Young.”
No, they were just a few old friends sitting in a restaurant chatting and killing time. They wouldn’t change the world, but they’d change their own world by making it a better place to be, if only one day at a time.
That changed the day Simon discovered a BeeGees hit song that would become The Gang’s new theme song, a song that would set their feet tapping just thinking about it and one they would approve of every day:
“Stayin’ Alive”
Excellent read! 😂😂
