While joking around with Leah one morning inside the cubicle they shared, Marcos shot a rubber band but his aim was off. He had no idea how far the thing would fly if he introduced a twist before he let it fly.
Turns out, a twisted rubber band can fly thirty feet and sail over Ellen the boss’ cubicle wall and onto her desk, while she was at her desk.
Marcos couldn’t believe his luck. And how was his aim so poor?
Ellen peeked her head over the cubicle but saw nothing. She heard whispers from two cubicles away, so she made her way over there.
“Either of you know about this?” she asked holding the beige rubber band.
Marcos and Leah said nothing, though the guilty look on Leah’s face spoke volumes.
“Not faulting either of you but I was wanting to know how you got it to travel so far, Marcos.”
“Uh, well, uh, I put a twist in the rubber band right before I let it fly.”
“Really,” Ellen said. “Hmpf. That’s it? I was trying to teach my son how to let it go, but I couldn’t get it to go more than 10 feet and definitely not in a straight line.”
“Nope, just a twist.”
“Good to know. Thanks,” said Ellen.
After Ellen turned the corner, Marcos mouthed a big “Wow” to Leah.
“Oh, and Marcos?” Ellen said, peeking her head around the corner.
“Yes, Ma’am?” Marcos said as he stood.
“There will not be a next time for this rubber band incident.”
“That’s correct, Ma’am. Wouldn’t even consider it.”

Don't you just love a boss who can make a point in such a way that leaves no question as to her intent if the disruption of peace in the office were repeated?
