“Aww, this is so romantic, Honey.” Maria said. “Our ten-month wedding anniversary. Camping out in the wilderness, the rain pitter pattering on the tent, us snuggled up like this. Penny for your thoughts.”
“I was just thinking about what we’ve been through these last few months. Loss of my job, finding a new one and all the emotions around that. Then having to move in with your parents and quickly realizing that was probably not the best idea in the world. One of these days we’ll get a home of our own, but for now we’ll have to rent.”
“It’ll be fine, Honey. We’ll make it. Of course it was nice having Mom around to …oh, let’s not think about them. This is our anniversary.”
“What were you going to say?” Darrell said. “It was nice having your mother around to do what?”
“Oh, it was nothing, Darrell, really. She’s just been a good friend all these years while I was growing up and through college. Put me through college so we don’t have this school debt over our heads.”
“Mmm,” Darrell said and it almost sounded like he agreed with her.
Almost.
Living with Inlaws has to be very difficult. I couldn't do it. She did the right thing by staying positive.
