Rex tapped his supervisor’s number into his smartphone.
“Greg, Rex here. Sorry to get you up. Hey listen, I’d like you to consider allowing me to work from home a couple days a week.”
Dead silence.
“Greg, you still there? I didn’t interrupt anything, er, awkward or anything, did I?”
“Oh, no no. Nothing like that. Just woke me from a dead sleep. It’s 2 in the morning here. Have you been drinking? Is this a joke, Rex?”
“No drinking, Greg. On duty now. I assure you it’s not a joke.”
“Then how do you propose we do this, Rex?”
“I don’t have a clue, Greg. That’s why you get the big bucks as it were. You know how to figure those things out.”
“Yeah right. No, you can’t work virtually, Rex, and don’t wake me out of a deep sleep again. You’re a commercial airline pilot, and as much as I’d like you to work virtually, it’s just not physically possible.”
“Okay, fair enough. Didn’t hurt to ask. No harm no fowl. Sorry for waking you. See you when I get back to DFW, Boss. I do hope you’d reconsider after another few months though.”
Way to get on the boss's good side, Rex!
